In this new blog, I would like to go deeper into what Insight Osteopathy is all about, using stories, experiences and examples in real life. In this way, the important information about your well being can be accessed and applied more easily.
Starting with the picture above, an image of how your life force moves through your physical body – the key here is that emotions ‘flow’ through our body through the meridians. This is how nature is designed. An emotion pops up, but then the design is for it to be felt. If we resist the feeling, the emotional charge can become held as tension in the myofascial matrix. In this way, feelings can build up, causing tension to accumulate.
We all have programs running that disconnect us from our feelings. How can we reconnect to them? How can we access them, but more importantly, keep them in flow, so that we return to a state of balance?
It doesn’t just stop there. The emotions arise because something happened, we experienced something lets say, which we found upsetting.
Alex (not real names), was dating Jon. She felt a deep connection to him. She was in love with him. In his presence, she felt loveable and capable and more beautiful about herself. The sex was great. He listened to her. They shared common interests together. After seven months, it was time for Jon to go back to his own country. Alex wanted more – she wanted a commitment from Jon, so that they could stay in connection. Jon couldn’t agree to this. He was only 26 and in his heart, he knew he wanted to have more experiences with other women. Alex felt heart broken. She felt betrayal, rejection and abandoned. When she dived into these feelings, she felt alone. As she travelled into alone she felt rage. Her belief was that she was not enough. The limiting belief of not enough brought up righteous anger. The anger showed up in her shoulder as pain and tension. It lead to her having an accident and falling on her shoulder. Now she was really feeling pain!
Alex stayed with the pain until she created the space to really dive in deeply to it with the help of a treatment. Now she could feel it all – the layers of grief, anger, aloneness and finally peace.
